The
project included raw water pumping upgrades; modifications
to the pretreatment process, including new up flow solids
contact clarifiers, integration of ultraviolet disinfection
equipment; a new 12,800 sq ft. chemical building; a three
million-gallon clear well; 60 mgd high-service pump station
and new administration and maintenance facilities.
Design
complexities and challenges included the six-month plant
shutdown and construction schedule for retrofitting, structural
modification to handle additional loads and large piping,
designing piping to minimize field welds, adding a 72 inch
distribution channel to prevent membrane backwashing and
tank drains from affecting plant hydraulics and implementing
an innovative control strategy to account for the clarifiers
and UV reactors requiring constant flow and UF membranes
requiring varying flow.
